About us

Today, the Archive of Tuzla Canton is a respectable institution equipped to deal with very complex issues of archival theory and practice. Fifty-five year growth can best be seen in its execution of core functions of preserving archival material, as well as a unique cultural heritage, irreplaceable memories, necessary not only for checking the validity of our past, but also for finding the identity of peoples and states. Thus, in recent years in terms of results achieved, among other things, we have done the following:

• established the competence and professional coverage of the archival service in the whole area that includes former 19 municipalities of the region north-eastern Bosnia (todays Tuzla Canton);

• we have taken for safekeeping more than 350 archival fonds and collections (approximately 6000 linear feet of material), most of the same are processed and prepared for use;

• we are safeguarding numerous and relevant information resources;

• we have achieved a significant collaboration with citizens;

• we published dozens of publications;

• Achieved professional cooperation with many similar institutions at home and abroad;

• permanent professional education is conducted so that our archival staff is able to answer all of the set of complex tasks;

• made a presentation of records by dozens of well-designed exhibitions;

• organized more than twenty professional and scientific meetings;

• recorded dozens of television and radio broadcasts

• published several hundred professional and scientific articles in dozens of magazines at home and abroad.

For achievements in their work Archives of Tuzla Canton has received numerous awards. All these are significant indicators that confirm that they made good results during our existance that spans ofer half of century.Thanks to these results has been made a major step towards bringing modern achievements in this field.

Mission of the Archive of Tuzla Canton stems from the statutory provisions governing the jurisdiction and the manner of his work (Law on archival activity of TK, Official Gazette TK, no. 15/00): preservation, protection, processing, sorting, research, publication and use of archival material.

Vision for our development presents a continuous effort to improve all segments of the Archive, use the latest technology of protection and preservation of archival materials, with the aim to ensure easier and more accessible use of funds and collections in our possesion.

Goals of our institution are achieving the highest standards of archival activities, implementation of the principles of market economy and convergence of archival material to the public through various communication channels.
